Kota and Hadoti itineraries
Written by Kota Rajasthan Editorial Team · Updated

How long do you need in Kota? One full day covers the heritage core, and two days are enough for the city itself: the Garh Palace and museum, Kishore Sagar and Jagmandir, Seven Wonders Park, Chambal Garden and an evening on the riverfront, with time for kachori in between. Every extra day opens up more of Hadoti: Bundi is an easy day trip, Jhalawar and Gagron need a full day, and Baran’s temples and forts, the Chambal gorge and the tiger reserves reward a longer, slower trip.
Pick the plan that fits your time. Each one is day by day, with morning, afternoon and evening suggestions and links to the place guides.

How to choose
| Your time | Best plan | What it covers | Transport |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 day | 1 day in Kota | Garh Palace, old city, Kishore Sagar | Auto-rickshaw, app cab |
| A weekend | 2 days | City sights, riverfront, gardens, food | Auto-rickshaw, app cab |
| 3 days | 3 days | Kota plus a Bundi day | Taxi or bus to Bundi |
| 5 days | 5 days | Kota, Bundi, Chambal gorge, Jhalawar and Gagron | Hired car recommended |
| A week | 7 days | Adds Baran’s temples and Mukundara Hills | Hired car |
| 10 days | 10 days | Adds Bhainsrorgarh, Baroli, Menal and Bijolia | Hired car |
A few rules of thumb:
- First visit, short on time: do the one-day plan or the Kota heritage walk, and add Bundi if you can stay a second night.
- Interested in art and history: build in time for the Garh Palace and the other museums in Kota and Hadoti, the Bundi Chitrashala and the Kota school of painting.
- Interested in temples and archaeology: the 7- and 10-day plans reach Baroli, the Chandrabhaga temples, Kakoni and Bijolia.
- Interested in wildlife and landscape: prioritise the Chambal boat trip, Garadia Mahadev and the Mukundara Hills.
- Travelling for a festival: fit the plan around the dates in our festivals calendar; in late November 2026 the Chandrabhaga fair and Bundi Utsav fall within a week of each other.

Before you go
- Season. October to March is the most comfortable time. April to June is very hot, and the monsoon (July to September) brings green landscapes and full waterfalls but some road and boat closures. See the best time to visit Kota.
- Transport. Kota Junction is a major stop on the Delhi to Mumbai main line. For day trips beyond Bundi, hire a car with a driver. See how to reach Kota.
- Pace. Palaces and temples close for lunch or on certain days; start early, rest in the afternoon heat, and save the riverfront for the evening.
- Festivals. If your dates fall in October, check the Dussehra Mela programme and book rooms early.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are enough for Kota?
One full day covers the essentials of the city, two let you see it properly, and three let you add Bundi. A week lets you see most of Hadoti without rushing.
Which itinerary should I choose?
Match it to your interests as well as your time: the 1- and 2-day plans focus on Kota city, 3 days adds Bundi, 5 days adds the Chambal gorge and Jhalawar, and 7 or 10 days take in Baran, Baroli, Menal and Bijolia.
Do I need a car for these itineraries?
Not for Kota city or Bundi, which are well served by auto-rickshaws, taxis and buses. For Jhalawar, Baran, Baroli and Menal, a hired car with a driver saves a great deal of time.
Can I visit Bundi as a day trip from Kota?
Yes. Bundi is about 36 km by road. Leave early to see Taragarh, the palace and Raniji ki Baori before the afternoon heat.
