Housed in the Brijvilas Palace on the shore of Kishore Sagar, the Government Museum is the place to piece together the deeper history of Kota and the Hadoti region. History of Government Museum (Maharao Madho Singh Museum)

The Government Museum is set in the Brijvilas Palace beside Kishore Sagar and serves as the principal state museum for the Kota region.

Its collections were assembled from archaeological finds, temple sculpture and royal artefacts of the Hadoti area, preserving material that spans from early historic periods through the era of the Kota state founded in 1631.

It stands alongside the royal Rao Madho Singh Museum in the Garh Palace as one of the two key repositories of Kota's heritage.

Curators like to point out that some of the museum's oldest sculptures long outdate the city itself, quiet witnesses, they say, to civilisations that flourished on this land centuries before Kota was ever founded.
