Near the small town of Bijolia, along the Kota-Chittorgarh route, stands an old and revered group of temples dedicated chiefly to Shiva. Once said to number in the dozens, several fine shrines survive, their carved shikharas and sculpted panels reflecting the artistic traditions of medieval Rajasthan.

The main temples, including the Undeshwar and Mahakaleshwar shrines, sit around a sacred tank and retain a quiet, devotional atmosphere. Ancient inscriptions found at Bijolia are historically important, shedding light on the Chauhan dynasty and the region's past.

History of Bijolia Temples

The Bijolia temples date largely from the 11th-12th centuries and are associated with the Chauhan period, built in the north Indian temple style. Bijolia was an important centre, and its inscriptions are valuable sources for the history of the Chauhans and the region.
