History of Kaithoon (Kota Doria Weaving Village)

Kota Doria weaving traces its origins to weavers said to have been brought to the Kota region from the south (the Mysore area) around the 17th-18th centuries, giving the fabric its early name Masuria. The craft took root in Kaithoon and surrounding villages, evolving into the distinctive Kota Doria of today.

The fabric has since earned a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognising its unique identity and protecting the livelihoods of the weaving community, though the craft still faces challenges from power-loom imitations.
