A restored royal lakeside pavilion with a biological park on Kota's edge
On the southern edge of Kota lies Abheda Mahal, a small but charming royal pleasure palace set beside a lake, once a hunting and leisure retreat of the Kota rulers. Recently restored, its domed pavilions and lakeside setting make it a popular spot for a relaxed outing close to the city.
Right beside it, the Abheda Biological Park has become one of Kota's favourite family attractions, home to deer, big cats, bears and other animals in enclosures set among greenery, along with pleasant walking paths. The lake attracts birds, adding to the appeal for nature lovers.
Being so close to the city, Abheda is one of the easiest half-day outings for residents and visitors alike, and a gentle introduction to the leisure side of Hadoti tourism without a long drive from Kota.
Abheda Mahal was built as a summer and hunting retreat by the rulers of Kota, its lakeside pavilions designed for cool relaxation. Over time it fell into neglect before being restored by the local authorities as a heritage and recreation spot.
The adjoining biological park was developed in recent years to give Kota a modern zoo and conservation facility, quickly becoming one of the city's most visited attractions.
Old Kota families recall that the maharajas would come to Abheda to escape the summer heat and hunt in the surrounding scrub, and that the lake was kept stocked and beautiful so the royal ladies could enjoy boat rides in the cool of the evening.
