Aabheda Mahal & Aabheda Biological Park

A heritage hunting palace paired with Kota's modern safari park

πŸ—Ί Kota City πŸ“ 9 km from Kota ⭐ Heritage palace with a wildlife safari park

Aabheda offers a two-in-one outing that has become a firm favourite among tourist places in Kota. At its heart stands the old Aabheda Mahal, a graceful royal palace set beside a pond, once a retreat and hunting lodge of the Kota rulers, its arches and pavilions reflected prettily in the water.

Right alongside is the Aabheda Biological Park, a modern wildlife park where you can see spotted deer, blackbuck, leopards, big cats and a variety of birds in large, naturalistic enclosures. It is an easy, family-friendly way to experience the region's fauna, and a hit with children.

Together the heritage palace and the biological park make for a full, varied day out, blending Kota's royal history with its wildlife, all within easy reach of the city.

History of Aabheda Mahal & Aabheda Biological Park

The Aabheda Mahal was built by the Kota royal family as a lakeside palace and hunting retreat, part of the network of pleasure pavilions the Hada rulers scattered around their capital.

In modern times the surrounding area was developed into the Aabheda Biological Park, converting the historic hunting grounds into a conservation-minded wildlife park, a fitting evolution from shikar to safari.

The pairing of the restored heritage palace with the new park has made Aabheda one of Kota's most popular recreational destinations.

Story & Legend

Old-timers say the rulers chose this pond for its unfailing waters, and that the palace's name, suggesting the impregnable, was meant to promise that no drought or enemy could ever breach this favoured retreat.
