3 Days in Kota — Heritage, River & a Bundi Day Trip
The classic Kota break, rounded off with the blue lanes and stepwells of Bundi.
With a third day in hand you can enjoy Kota at a relaxed pace and add the jewel of the Hadoti region: Bundi. Just 40 kilometres away, Bundi is a photographer's dream of blue houses, ornate stepwells and a palace whose murals inspired Rudyard Kipling.
This plan gives you two full days in and around Kota and a dedicated day trip to Bundi, so you get both the big-city sights and small-town charm without rushing.
Explore the Garh Palace and the Rao Madho Singh Museum to soak in the Kota-school miniatures, armoury and painted halls. Give yourself time to wander the ramparts overlooking the Chambal.
Lunch on Rajasthani thali, then visit Kishore Sagar and the island palace of Jagmandir, followed by the fun replicas at Seven Wonders Park.
Spend the evening at the Chambal Riverfront as the ghats and fountains light up. Take a boat ride and enjoy dinner by the water.
Drive to Bundi (about an hour). Climb up to the Bundi Palace and the Chitrashala, whose blue-green murals are among the finest in Rajasthan. Continue up to Taragarh Fort for sweeping views over the blue town.
After lunch, admire the magnificent Raniji ki Baori stepwell and stroll the old bazaar lanes. Bundi is compact and made for walking.
Catch sunset at Nawal Sagar lake, where the palace reflects in the water, then drive back to Kota for the night.
Head to Chambal Garden for a riverside walk and a look at the gharials, then consider a morning boat safari on the Chambal to spot birds and crocodiles.
Enjoy a proper Kota food trail — pyaaz kachoris, samosas and kulfi — and shop for Kota Doria sarees before you leave.
A last easy evening at the riverfront or a sunset boat ride at Kishore Sagar to round off the trip.
