Ramgarh Vishdhari, in the Bundi district, is one of Rajasthan's newest tiger reserves and a crucial link in the state's tiger landscape, forming a corridor between Ranthambore to the north and Mukundara Hills to the south. Its rolling hills, plateaus and dry forests make ideal big-cat country, and tigers have already begun to move through and settle in the area.

Beyond tigers, the reserve is home to leopards, sloth bears, hyenas, wild boar, deer and a wealth of birds, and its relatively untouched forests offer a quiet, wild safari experience. The Ramgarh Mahadev temple and scenic viewpoints add to the area's appeal.

History of Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve

The area was long protected as the Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary before being notified as a tiger reserve in 2022, becoming one of Rajasthan's most recent additions to Project Tiger. Its designation recognised its importance as a corridor connecting major tiger populations.

Conservation efforts here aim to secure the movement of tigers across the Hadoti landscape and to protect the wider community of wildlife that depends on these forests.

Story & Legend

The name Vishdhari, 'holder of poison', is tied to a local goddess said to neutralise venom, and villagers tell that snakebite victims once came to her shrine in these hills to be cured, protected by the same wild forest that now shelters the tiger.
