Modernising ruler of Kota

Maharao Umed Singh II presided over Kota during a period of modernisation. His reign saw the introduction of improved civic infrastructure, educational and public institutions, and the ornate palace architecture for which Kota is admired.

Umed Singh was also a noted patron of the arts and a keen sportsman, and his era left a lasting imprint on the city's heritage buildings.

He is remembered for laying early foundations of modern Kota β€” schools, public works and heritage architecture β€” that prepared the ground for the industrial city Kota would later become.
