Maharao Bhim Singh II was the ruler of Kota at the time of India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of the princely states into the Indian Union. His reign marks the end of the royal era and the beginning of Kota's journey as part of democratic Rajasthan.
The transition oversaw the arrival of large public-sector industries along the Chambal that would transform Kota's economy.
